Well, since I still don't have an abundance of time to tell you more about the program, I thought I would show you. (Most of the photos below are of Mrs. Keturah's class, so there are lots of pictures of Kerry, and not so many of Sarah. There will be more photos to come). Anyway, here's a few pics of the CC classes:

In this photo, I think Mrs. Keturah may be teaching the kids how to skip-count. (I didn't take these pics, but often I'm observing the classes.) You may also be able to make out the U.S. map (with the red stars), which is behind the teacher. The students are learning five states and capitols each week, and the red stars are for the capitols.

Fine Arts class with Mrs. Donna--In this first shot, Kerry and his buddies/class-mates are learning about different shapes that can be used in art. (As you can see, little Kerry is concentrating hard!)

**Note: The kids and I are really enjoying the CC program as a supplement to our homeschooling. The lessons are presented in a really fun way, and the curriculum includes some subject matter that I haven't been able to introduce or cover with them yet. Also, the kids have the opportunity to learn from other teachers (still in a Christian environment and with very small classes). In addition, the kids make friends whom they are able to see regularly. (My kiddos especially enjoy their social time at lunch and out-door play-time!)

Ich freue mich, euch ein englischsprachiges Interview mit meinem neuen  serbischen Clan-Kollegen Lav “Lav” Kovac präsentieren zu können. Lav trat MMC.eSports vor einigen Tagen am 18. September 2008 bei. Er qualifizierte sich für die World Cyber Games (WCG) Grand Finals im Spiel Command and Conquer 3. Die Grand Finals werden vom 5. bis 8. November in Köln stattfinden. Lav ist in Gruppe B – wie auch Dackel, der die deutsche WCG-Qualifikation gewonnen hat.

MMC.e-bug|Lav: I’m an ambitious young man, hungry for success, but I’m a nice down-to-earth guy - at least I think so =) - and besides gaming & music, which takes up most of my time, I love hanging out with my friends, going to concerts and drinking beer.

MMC.e-bug|Lav: I guess what made me buy it in the first place was the reason my friend Daut would switch to it, and it looked like a promising new RTS. WCG Serbia finally taking a spot for a non blizzard RTS came in second as another reason to buy it.

MMC.e-bug|Lav: Yeah, I have played it for a short while.

MMC.e-bug|Lav: I haven't played it much, but so far, so good. I love that they implemented water into the gameplay. I’ve missed this since Age of Empire 3 / Rise of Nations and I was always a fan of naval battles as an extra hmm

MMC.e-bug|Predatory fish: Do you like LAN-tournaments or do you prefer online-gaming?

MMC.e-bug|Lav: Yes, I do. My LAN experience is small, mainly because there are no LANs in my area . But I’ve played on two so far and I definitely enjoy them more. Simply, there is much more adrenaline pumping through me when I play in LAN, than just simply playing at home where I also make shit, eat, wash dishes and sleep^^...

I compare it to music: I simply like more playing live than doing a recording session in studio.

MMC.e-bug|Predatory fish: Quite interesting. Well, our next topic is the WCG. What did you feel at the moment you qualified for WCG Grand Finals?

MMC.e-bug|Lav: Wow. It was my dream come true^^ I always thought about it, but seeing it happen, feeling it, it’s quite amazing. It was quite a spectacular moment for me, standing up from that PC after I won. The DJ played "We're the champions" by Queen, and I really felt like a champ. But only few minutes later I became aware that the toughest job is yet to come - the Cologne WCG finals.

MMC.e-bug|Predatory fish: Have you ever been in Germany, where the WCG Grand Finals will take place this year? What do you know about Germany?

MMC.e-bug|Lav: I’ve been to Germany a few times, in Berlin. I have only passed through Cologne once, and stopped for a train swap. It was funny: I walked out to get some fresh air and I was shocked by the Koeln Cathedrale, quite a big building.

MMC.e-bug|Predatory fish: Let's talk about our clan. What did you know about Starsky, Dragonfood, InsOp and Celerity, for example, when you joined MMC.eSports?

MMC.e-bug|Lav: I knew a lot about MMC for a long time before I actually joined. I've been following MMC since Age of Empires 3 came out, and it has always been my top website for Age of Empires 3/Command and Conquer 3 news over the years. I used it to watch loads of Starsky's replays, and MMC's 3v3 replays in Age of Empires 3 and they were always inspiring for me. Later Daut joined them and then I was sure MMC is THE clan to be in. At the moment, the Command and Conquer 3 lineup is a dream team (except me hahaha) and I’m glad to be part of it.

MMC.e-bug|Predatory fish: Nice. You have joined MMC.eSports just a few days ago, but what is your first impression of MMC.eSports as a member of MMC?

MMC.e-bug|Lav: I’m amazed how professional they are. Yet they aren't the typical "geeks" as someone would expect from people who play games so much. So far, all the people involved in MMC, players & staff, gave the impression of one big gaming family.

MMC.e-bug|Predatory fish: Just a personal question: Dragonfood likes cats. Do you have any pets, too?

MMC.e-bug|Lav: I have a dog and a cat. The dog is named Dunja and the cat doesn’t have a name as far as I know haha

Viel Spass und VergnĂĽgen!

After watching the first episode at tonights Anime Society meet, (watching it was my idea... since all these close minded fools just wanna watch endless repeats of Elfin Lied, Chobits and Hellsing....bah... I'm like... the most knowledgable/otaku of the lot!! I was hoping for a fellow otaku to talk to...) I felt compelled to watch more. So far its good, wondering what they'll use/how they'll bring CC back to life, cos CC is cute. (After watching some of Geass, I now have a legit reason to get Kallen/Karen, CC and Shirley-san figures! lol)

My oppinion of Lelouch or Lulu as I will be refering to him from now on, is not great so far... he seems a little crazed, a little power hungry.... I'm sure I'll find out the reason for his partial insanity later on though. Better be good... cause all I can think is that he's a grade A bitch lol. (And also, which is it, Kallen or Karen? I've seen Karen for the figures, and Kallen for the subs I'm watching.)

Another thing.. my sister said her math teacher is.. basically an idiot. She makes you problem solve with EXACTLY 4 steps?! WTF. You have to solve every specific thing, HER WAY and if you don't, you get it wrong. How stupid and controlling is that? Everyone knows that there are many many different ways to do different things in math. It's just a question of whether it is simpler or complex. Whatever you choose right? You, lady, are a crappy teacher. Oh wait did I mention this is her first semester teaching? Hah no wonder right.

On a happier note....

I love my other teachers <3. I couldn't ask for better teachers. Really.

Geez I can't wait for post-secondary. Then I'll have profs who are old and wise and KNOWLEDGEABLE, with many many years of teaching experience, rather than these dumbasses we're supposed to address with "teachers" at school. I can't wait to get out of this.

It should be the law to only allow teachers over 40 to teach.

Ich bin noch einen Bericht ĂĽber mein EAS-Spiel am vergangenen Donnerstag schuldig. Es stand ein Spiel gegen Nebuchad auf dem Programm.
Die Maps waren Small Town USA und Tournament Arena. Nebuchad war sehr freundlich, fair und pĂĽnktlich. Solche Gegner wĂĽnscht man sich immer :) und hat man leider gar nicht so oft :( . Wir konnten jedenfalls gleich loslegen.
Ich entschied mich für die GDI. Nebuchad besetzte auf Small Town die Zivilgebäude zwischen unseren beiden Basen mit Infanterie. Dort hissten seine Truppen die Flaggen der Bruderschaft von Nod. Nachdem ich, passend zu meinem Nickname, eine schöne Predator-Panzer-Armee gebaut hatte, räumte ich mit einem Grenadiertrupp die Gebäude und rückte mit den Predators vor, was ein schnelles Ende für Nebuchad bedeutete. Seine Fehler waren vor allem, eine zu schwache Wirtschaft aufzubauen und zu wenige Kampfeinheiten zu bauen.
Dies wiederholte sich auf Tournament Arena, wo ich gleich zu Beginn einen Nod-Saboteur von Nebuchad ausschalten konnte. Kurz darauf rĂĽckten wieder meine Predators in seine Basis vor und machten kurzen Prozess.

Ich werde in nächster Zeit einige Hausarbeiten schreiben müssen, was mich auch veranlasst hat, mein Trainingspensum zu verringern. Umso gespannter blicke ich auf Donnerstagabend, wo ich gleich zwei Spiele haben werde. Gegen Hellman, den ich nicht gut kenne, und atom1c, welcher derzeit Zweiter der EAS ist, nachdem er vor kurzem wieder in die EAS eingestiegen ist und unter anderem mich herausgefordert hatte.

Ein wenig genervt bin ich gerade von der ESL-Homepage, welche des öfteren wegen Homepageproblemen verhindert, dass ich Forderungen beantworten kann. Ich hoffe, dies wird sich legen.

Nun werde ich noch ein paar Dateien fĂĽr die Uni herunterladen und dann hoffentlich bald in meinem Bett sein, den Schlaf, den ich gestern zu wenig hatte, ein wenig nachholen^^

Lelouch, el protagonista de la serie quien es desterrado de su derecho de sucesiĂłn al trono vive una apacible vida en la academia Ashford; sin embargo Ă©l sabe que vive bajo una mentira "ÂżComo puede vivir un habitante de Britania que odia a Britania?".

En medio de un mundo envuelto en guerras y conflictos el gran interés de Lelouch es conseguir que el mundo sea un lugar más apacible donde él y su hermana Nunnally puedan vivir. Pero el destino juega a favor de Lelouch, quien tiene la potencialidad para realizar grandes logros (es un gran estratega) pero no el poder se encuentra con C.C. Tras salvarla decide otorgarle el poder de los dioses, el Geass, que en manos de Lelouch puede hacer que cualquier persona le obedezca. Eso si, tan solo una vez y con la limitación de ser necesario el contacto visual.

Se puede afirmar sin estar loco que la segunda temporada de Code Geass ha sido el anime mas comentado de una temporada en la que no ha tenido mucha competencia. Sin embargo eso no le resta ni mérito ni calidad. Siguiendo las bases de la primera temporada podemos ver capítulo a capítulo las sorpresas que nos da Lelouch (o que le dan a Lelouch). En concreto me ha parecido especialmente cuidados los finales que nos brindaban desde los estudios sunrise (creadores de Gundam, Cowboy Bebop o Inuyasa entre otras series). Aunque por otro lado eran bastante "puñeteros" por tener que estar uno esperando una semana para el siguiente capítulo.

Centrándonos ya en R2 (la acotación que le han puesto para diferenciarla de la primera temporada) podemos decir que Code Geass se internacionaliza. Salen de Japón y extienden el conflicto a una escala mundial.

En lo que se refiere estrictamente al anime hay un aumento considerable del Fan Service, se que la serie ha recibido algunas críticas por ello. A mi personalmente me agrada en el punto que está, ya que no interfiere para nada en la trama. Además las chicas de Code son un sol, C.C, Kallen, Shirley, la vicepresidenta, Villeta...

En definitiva, no puedo hacer más que recomendar esta serie en donde los mechas/robots en realidad son algo secundario. Personajes muy interesantes, una historia muy atractiva, una calidad de la animación muy por encima de la media... sinceramente. Hype ninguno, no tengo la menor duda. Sobre todo después de repasar los primeros capítulos para hacer esta entrada y darme cuenta de que toda la historia y la verdad se muestra desde el principio de manera muy clara.

When it comes to e-mail etiquette, there may be many who aren't aware that not everyone wishes to have their addresses forwarded along with the latest funny joke or picture that's being passed along. Perhaps it may be due to the fact that the senders (or forwarders) are unaware of what the "CC," "BCC" and "Reply" buttons or commands do.

The "CC" field stands for "Carbon Copy," which in this day and age may have next to no meaning for most e-mail users. Carbon copy refers to the old days of typing when an actual carbon page was placed between two pages when typing to insure that one page would be carboned (or copied) to the other. Thus, the idea is that putting an address — or addresses —  in the CC field copies that message to that (or those) addresses. The recipient(s) will see those addresses when they receive the e-mail.

The "BCC" field stands for "Blind Carbon Copy." Understanding what CC does, you can see how BCC works. Basically it allows the sender to copy a message to another address or addresses without the recipient seeing those addresses. You can send an e-mail with the "To" field empty and addresses in either the "CC" or "BCC" fields and the message will still be sent.

So, why is this important? Well, consider the fact that sending a forwarded e-mail that is filled with addresses is a) rude to the recipient and b) possibly opening those recipients up to spammers. After all, did the people in your address book actually ask you to send their address all over the Internet? Even on a basic level, how much will your recipient enjoy your message when they have to scroll through a long list of addresses before they get to it?

That being said, it would probably be better to learn how to use the CC and BCC fields if you absolutely must forward that joke or picture. This is how it would work: Uncle Larry sends you a hilarious joke and you want to share it with your entire address book. When you hit forward and the message field opens up, you can leave the "To" and "CC" fields blank and then put your addresses in the "BCC" field and then hit send.

On a somewhat related note, suppose you're replying to a message. Again, the same principles hold. Don't clutter the message by filling up the "To" and "CC" fields unless you want to document to the group who saw the message and reply. Also, if you want to reply to just the sender and not the entire group, don't hit reply all but rather just reply.

This might seem like a lot of work for something that works pretty easy already. But, like saying "please" and "thank you," a little politeness can go a long way.

I’m a big fan of CC. I use a lot of CC-licensed materials in presentations, for instance. Let me explain the rationale as to how I decide which of my images to make available under Creative Commons.

1. If they are from a social media event, then generally I guess other people might want to blog them.
2. If they are of gadgets or objects, or are quick snapshots, then the likelihood is that I’m going to blog them, and others might want to as well.
3. If someone specifically asks to use an image, I’ll consider whether or not it could / should be CC-licensed. Generally, it’s nice when people want to use one of my images, so I try to oblige.
4. If I find that an image has been used on a blog without the author checking and it is marked All Rights Reserved, and I subsequently decide that the image is generally shareable, then I’ll open it up.
5. If they are family, portraits or landscape shots – i.e. the bulk of my work – then there’s a chance I might want to do something with them commercially in the future, or else there’s a good reason for me not wanting just anyone to use them (plus there may be rights issues outside of my control anyway). In these cases, I generally will not apply a CC license.

The license I most frequently apply is Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works. The annoyance is that I seem to find myself having to “police” the use of the images… I have some web search feeds set up which look for references to my Flickr URL, and when I see them used, I’ll take a look at the site. The most frequently-used image seems to be this one of one of my favourite blogging books… but 90% of the time I have to go and ask for the blogger in question to add an attribution or reference back to the original site. I always add a link to the original Flickr page to the bottom of slides, and details of the images used in the notes for any slide deck. It’s part of playing fair.

I like Creative Commons. I just wish that more people understood how to use CC-licensed content.

Update: I just want to emphasise that 99% of the folks I do correspond with on this issue are very polite, helpful, and made the honest mistake of not necessarily knowing the background on CC licensing. The issue is usually fixed without hesitation. In the example I cited in this post, the author did link back to the Flickr page, and the alt text of the img tag very clearly references me - it's just that many browsers won't show that even in a tooltip, as the link URL will be shown in preference. A clear credit is usually a better option, in my own opinion.
