So season 2 just aired last night and OH-MOI-GAWD it was gud. It definitely lived up to my expectations. I swear I brought dinner in to my room, turned on the away message, put the tv on blast, and left an empty Gatorade bottle in the corner just in case I had to go to the bathroom. Yes, I am a feindddd.

So I quasi-live blogged the show with the hottest cast EVER, quasi-not.

Quick thoughts:

Croquet, pastels and cocktails.  It's GG.  And it's on crack--and by crack I mean the Hamptons.  Thirty seconds in and these crazy kids are already getting it on!  God I missed this show.  Rawr.  WHY WAS I NOT THAT HOT AT 16? Or 17.  Or 18.  Or 19...this is getting depressing.  Whatever.

Oooh Dunkin' Donuts product placement on Rufus' tour bus.  My New England trained eye could spot a DD logo anywhere.

Drama with Blair and "Chuck Basstard" about a pin. What is this? 1950? LAME.

Speaking of Chuck.  I think they've taken this "I'm Chuck Bass" thing a little too far.  Taking good characters from the first time around and putting them on steroids for all subsequent appearances is a common mistake.  I like to call it the Stifler Syndrome.  In the first American Pie movie, Stifler was absurd yet oddly believable.  And kind of funny.  I mean, he does get peed on.  With each AP movie, (AP 2, American Wedding) he became a caricature of himself and utterly obnoxious.  He is practically the star of American Wedding.  Teevee God (aka script writers and producers) help us.  I WANT OLD CHUCK BACK.

Let's take a second to acknowledge Serena's hair at the White Party.  She looked like a goddess, for sure.  But the hair was so over the top.  It looked like golden snakes wound in with the Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves lovechild hair extensions.  Her hair = a hot tranny mess.  Despite having hair of the Medusa persuasion, Blake Lively is stunning and I want to be her. (Blake and Penn--never ever ever ever break up.  Ya'll are the new Seth and Summer/Adam and Rachel.  Don't fail us like they did.)

I have a friend who believes Blair Waldorf is his soulmate.  Best of luck to you, friend, because a) she's not real and b) this bitch is back in full force.  (Is it just me or did she look like she got into a nasty brawl with a spray tan booth?  Ummm Blair it was the White Party, not the Orange and White party.) And dating a British lord who pretended to be an American that went to Princeton so that people liked him for his pretentious, rich American elitist self and not his pretentious, rich British elitist self?  My mind is blown.  First of all, this makes me yearn for the days when Prince William was still a dreamboat (sigh).  But really, GG?  You're going to give us all false hopes that this tomfoolery actually happens?  And that a British Lord wants me to like him for him and not just his title?  Disney already ruined me.  This might break me.

As Kristen Bell's voice familiarly closed the episode with "You know you love me.  XOXO, Gossip Girl", I have to say, I don't think I did love this Gossip Girl.  The scripts were never good, but this was dreadful.  I love me some bad teevee shows and my expectations are wayyyyyy lower than they should be, but I at least expect the dialogue to be tolerable at best.

But the clothes were amazing.  And I'll still watch next week.  Mission accomplished.

On another note, I am obsessed with the song played in the opening scene.  It is my new favorite summer/end of summer (wahhhhhhh) song and I am embarrassed.  I am embarrassed because one half of the band, Shwayze, is Mischa Barton's ex-bf.  Remember Cisco Adler?  Yup.  Now he can be known for something other than looking like the younger brother of Weird Al and being the former lovah of the worst character on the OC and a Keds spokeswoman.  Basically this song is the 2008 version of LFO's "Summer Girls".  Stop judging me, jerks.

Say what you will, naysayers - I don't care, I LOVE this show to the point where it is unhealthy. It eats my soooul that new episodes haven't aired this summer, leaving me to watch repeats upon repeats, argh!

If you like pretty people, drama, comedy, witty dialogue with cultural references, NYC and IMO the best fashionable wardrobe on T.V. ever, period, you will love this show. It's like The OC meets Cruel Intentions and decides to have a threesome with Mean Girls. It is so sinfully good.

Why you need to watch Gossip Girl including 1 million photos and videos after the jump:

I'm not going to bore you with some epic summary of what's been happening thus far in the series, but rather, I'll give you my top 10 reasons on what makes this show so good and suggest that you sit through the first episode up to episode 5 at the very least to get a good feel and understanding for it. The show just gets better and better as it progresses. I would not lie.

1. Hot girls.
2. Ridiculously good fashion like I'm not even kidding; girls & guys.
3. High school drama, you know you love it.
4. All production done in NYC, that's right, everything is shot in New York. No locations are fake.
5. Chuck Bass(self explanitory).
6. Again, the fashion, simply inspirational.
7. Social destruction, backstabbing, sex, drugs, theft, Lydia Hearst, Lex Luthor, gay outings, secrets, and sharp writing.
8. Something to be excited about on boring Mondays.
9. The fact that you don't have to be a high school teenage girl to fully enjoy this show.
10. And HOT GIRLS.

So normally I update the blog when I see a movie, and for not much else. I may try and change this in future. For now though, I've seen three films lately and not blogged my thoughts on any of them. So here are some mini-reviews to make up for it.

First cab off the rank was X-Files: I Want To Believe. And I did. Want to believe, that is. But unfortunately I couldn't. If you've read any reviews, then you've probably heard this already, but it just felt like an overly long TV episode, replete with average special effects and a jarring moment with a portrait of George Bush that's the sort of thing you get away with on TV a lot more than you do on film. My overall impression was that this would have been a better film if they'd made it independently of X-Files, i.e. used different characters and called it something else. The references to the characters' history were the weaker moments of the film. Overall this could have waited for DVD, but I had won tickets, and felt obliged to use them. Six out of ten Snifters for this one.

The following night the wife and I returned to the theater for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This is a comedy from writer Jason Segel, who also stars. Segel is an Apatow alum, and the film incudes Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd, who will be familiar to fans of the Apatow stable. The reason that I think this crew are doing so well is that they provide romantic comedies that follow the formula, but manage to also treat the audience like adults. Characters tend to act true to type, rather than the inevitable crisis coming from someone doing something that they just wouldn't do. Feelings displayed by the characters feel more real and less contrived, giving the comedy a much more real backdrop to play against, which I think makes it funnier. Overall I enjoyed this film, and it gave me a new appreciation for the, um, talents of Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell. Eight Snifters out of ten.

More recently, I saw Wanted. This actioner based on a lesser-known graphic novel and it pays to know this going it - it makes the crazy action and hyper-stylization easier to deal with. Once you've realised that the laws of physics aren't going to apply consistently, you can sit back and enjoy the fun. James McAvoy is a charismatic lead, even when he's playing a bit of a loser. He's likeable and easy to barrack for. Angelina Jolie is made for the kind of role she plays here. She has a way of saying an awful lot without opening her mouth, with a kind of knowing smile that conveys amusement, indulgence, kindness, patience and disdain all at once, which is perfect for her character of Fox. Director Timur Bekmambetov has the "style over substance" thing down in this movie, and it's great for a while, but when the movie takes its inevitable twist, it's not as much fun as the first half journey that McAvoy's character takes. Worthwhile overall, but not an instant classic. Seven Snifters out of ten.

I recognize that millions of viewers found the show to be thoroughly entertaining, and these people are free to completely disregard what I have to say.

Also, those who have not seen these episodes yet and do not know the major plot developments should avoid this article at all costs. Ye be warned, here there be spoilers.

SAVE THE CHEERLEADER, AND EVERYTHING GOES TO CRAP

The blog-o-dome is abuzz with talk of Heroes – Season 2 on DVD. While I may be tempted to add it to my queue near the bottom, I am in no hurry to re-live the equal parts boredom and near-aneurism-inducing frustration brought on by these episodes.

Creator and executive producer Tim Kring said of Season 2, “the show’s first season was about ordinary people finding out they had extraordinary powers. The second season is going to be about these now extraordinary people trying to fit in with the ordinary world.” This season’s train was apparently headed off the rails before minute one. Heroes worked (when it did work) because it was a show about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. When you make a show about people doing ordinary things, it doesn’t matter if they happen to be extraordinary. It’s BORING. Nobody wants to watch a show about Superman doing his laundry, or Batman balancing his checkbook. It kills me because they had such an opportunity to ramp up the tension and action of the show by picking up right where it left off at the end of season one, but instead decided to make use of the Dragon Ball Z plot-restarting technique (take all season to gather all seven dragon balls and make a wish, then watch as the balls immediately rocket off to all new corners of the globe, requiring you to take another strikingly similar season-long journey.)

SPOILERS ON!

Speaking of scattering everything the first season built to the four winds, let’s take a look at characters and their development. Heroes is an ensemble show without question, but they attempted to fix one of critics’ biggest complaints (too many different character plots, though not necessarily too many characters) by adding MORE character plots! Los Gemelos de la Maravilla (the Mexican Wonder Twins) are the most prominent example of this. Months after the finale, I have still not heard a single positive word about these characters from anyone. Their subplot was completely useless, their characterization was inconsistent at best, their backstory made NO sense, and they contributed nothing but filler to an already filler-stuffed season. The only time I had a glimmer of interest in Maya was when she was ready to abandon all of her values and become the Baroness to Sylar’s Cobra Commander. Sadly, it lasted all of ten minutes. Let’s break down some of the others, shall we?

Monica Dawson was an interesting character, in large part because Taskmaster’s powers of photographic muscle memory are so darn nifty. He’s a character that doesn’t get ripped off very often, but Heroes hates original ideas. Her story arc was one of the most appropriate of the bunch, as it actually involved her trying to be a hero. What a novel concept!

Bob, Elle and Adam made for interesting, if confusing, antagonists. I’m still unclear as to who was really calling the shots in the first season. Linderman was apparently a pawn for Angela Petrelli and her shadowy co-conspirators, yet Angela acts as though Adam is the Antichrist and that she never wanted anything to do with him. Bob always seemed like a stooge, and I was reluctant to believe that anyone put him in charge of anything. Elle’s characterization was a joke. Based on the way she was written, I kept expecting to see her in a dominatrix outfit constantly licking her lips at the prospect of fresh subjects to torture. Actually, her sociopathy reminded me of Famke Janssen’s character in Goldeneye (especially the scene where she looks like she’s getting waaaay too much pleasure from firing that machine gun.) We get it, Kristen Bell. Elle is a tough but sexy bad-girl who’s just crazy enough to do it, so don’t push her! But deep down, all she ever wanted was Daddy’s love. Now we don’t mind that you killed all those people, Kristen Bell, because all you wanted was a hug.

As for Adam, I really never understood this character. He goes from being a drunk and a cheat, to being a hero (reluctantly and for a very short time), to getting (deservedly) jilted by Hiro and the Princess, to becoming the world’s most eeeeevil villain?! You’d think an immortal would learn to find some perspective and get over his grudges. Nevertheless, he tears a few hundred pages out of Ra’s Al Ghul’s handbook and becomes an undying eco-terrorist bent on wiping out humanity so that the scales can be reset. The only trouble is that his plans don’t make anywhere near as much sense as the classic Batman villain’s (and don’t get me started on the logistics of the nefarious plot in Batman Begins) and barely need superhero intervention to stop at all. While his comeuppance is nicely poetic, I don’t think anybody was fooled into thinking this would be the last we’d see of Adam Monroe. After all, the same thing happened to Captain Jack Harkness in Torchwood and he was back before the episode was finished.

West is apparently the show’s attempt to replicate Smallville, with disastrous results. The only way this character could have been interesting would have been if he’d been a spy for The Company all along, charged with seducing and ultimately bringing in Claire. If that had been his motivation, all of his actions would have made sense. If not, it’s just (in my opinion) hack writing.

The addition of a third personality inside Nikki/Jessica’s already cramped skull was pathetic, and another attempt to re-hash the same problems from season one after they had already been entertainingly resolved. D.L.’s death was one of the only emotional moments of the season, and it was given what seemed to be as little screen time as possible. After a very mysterious absence, we find out that he gets offed in a flashback midway through the season! Why, oh, why couldn’t that random cokehead have shot Nikki/Jessica instead?! Because we had to tolerate an insufferably un-entertaining rehashed plot that went nowhere until it culminated in the only cheer-worthy moment of the season: Nikki being crushed and burned to death in a somewhat bold yet incredibly stupid gesture of heroism. If her death was one of the story changes brought on by the writer’s strike, then thank Goodness for it.

Speaking of the strike, I am actually glad it happened. It forced the writers to cram what I would like to think a normal episode’s amount of action and intrigue should be (which was doubtless at least three episodes pre-strike) into their final episode and to actually resolve things to some extent. I was sad to see the character of Nathan get perforated, especially since Peter and his super-blood were right there and could have been used to save him again, but they didn’t do much with him this season anyway. I think I’ll imagine that he died in the nuclear explosion, and that season 2 was all a bad dream.

The buzz about season 3 (subtitled: Villains) is that it should bring the show back in the right direction. Only time will tell, of course, but I think they’ll be okay if they trim the vast network of not-interwoven-enough plots and actually provide some overt conflict between heroes and villains. We don’t need costumes or giant monsters, but we do need some gorram thrilling heroics.

La doppiatrice storica della sirenetta Ariel, Jodi Benson, ha rivelato che doppierà Barbie nel terzo capitolo della saga Disney/Pixar e ad affiancarla ci sarà Michael Keaton, indimenticabile Batman burtoniano, che darà la voce a Ken.

Keaton ha già lavorato con la Pixar in precendenza doppiando Chick Hicks in Cars. Il brillante attore e la Benson si uniranno a Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn e Ned Beatty. La release americana di Toy Story 3 è prevista per il giugno 1010.

Bij verschillenden onder ons zal de naam Astro Boy wel een belletje doen rinkelen. Deze klassieker onder de manga’s van Osamu Tezuka genoot veel bekendheid in de jaren ’50 en ’60 en is ook nu nog zeer bekend bij vele mangafans – en zelfs bij mensen die zich hier helemaal niet mee bezighouden. Ik kijk in elk geval nu reeds uit naar deze film, en of dit nu vol verwachting of met veel verwarring is, laten we in het midden. Mijn nieuwsgierigheid is echter vooral gewekt door de acteurs die werden gecast voor de stemmen. Naast de grote naam Nicolas Cage staat daar immers Freddie Highmore als Astro Boy. Sommigen gaan hier misschien onterecht de wenkbrauwen fronsen, maar eerlijk gezegd denk ik wel dat deze jongen, die o.a. bekend is van Finding Neverland, Charlie and the chocolate factory en van het meer recente August Rush, voor deze Astro Boy best wel goed gecast is. Ik voel me minder gemakkelijk bij de naam Kristen Bell, en ook gewoon al bij het feit dat dit een Amerikaanse versie van een typisch Japanse strip (u weet wel, manga) uit de jaren ’50 zal worden. Het verleden heeft ons al vaker getoond dat een Amerikaanse bewerking van een goed verhaal niet noodzakelijk altijd een goede film oplevert. Ik ben in elk geval benieuwd naar wat de toekomst zal brengen.

28 year old Kristen Bell (NBC's Heroes) has just been added to the voice cast of the forthcoming animated movie Astro Boy. Bell, who for some reason passes as every fanboy's favorite twenty-something actress, thus joins Freddie Highmore (The Spiderwick Chronicles), Nicolas Cage (Bangkok Dangerous), Bill Nighy (Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 & 3), Donald Sutherland (Fool's Gold), Eugene Levy (the American Pie films) and Nathan Lane (Swing Vote), among others.

The long-gestating movie is of course based on the manga by legendary artist/animator/doctor Osamu Tezuka (Metropolis), and is directed by David Bowers (Flushed Away) through Imagi Animation (TMNT). The story, adapted by Timothy Harris (Space Jam), goes like this according to Wikipedia:

Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving man's expectations, Astro Boy embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the father who had rejected him.

Astro Boy is expected to release in 2009, but a date has yet to be set.

Rumores assustadores apontam Cher como a próxima Mulher Gato

Vamos ficar na torcida para que esses rumores sobre o terceiro filme do Batman sejam falsos. O jornal Daily Telegraph alega que a atriz e cantora Cher (Chá com Mussoline) entrou em negociações para fazer o papel da Mulher Gato na sequência de Cavaleiro das Trevas (The Dark Knight, 2008). Um executivo anônimo da Warner Bros soltou a notícia e explicou que Cher seria a primeira escolha do próprio diretor Christopher Nolan. Ele estaria interessado em alguém que seja o absoluto oposto das atrizes que já foram Mulher Gato nos últimos filmes como Michelle Pfeiffer e Halle Barry. Realmente, podemos afirmar que Cher, 62 anos, seria o oposto das demais, inclusive com idade para ser a Tia May em Homem Aranha. Mas ninguém confirma a notícia. Nolan ainda está em negociações com a Warner para assumir o terceiro filme, mas é quase certo seu retorno. O roteirista de Batman, David S. Goyer, também em negociações, negou o interesse em envolver a personagem Mulher Gato no próximo filme, quando os primeiros rumores apontaram para Angelina Jolie (O Procurado), uma escolha bem mais interessante. Resta aguardar para saber se o rumor procede. Mas os fãs de Batman, nos próximos dias, terão pesadelos com Cher fazendo: MIAU!!!!

A estrela em ascenção, Kristen Bell (das séries Heroes e Veronica Mars) vai dublar a mocinha da nova animação da Warner, Astro Boy, prevista para estrear em 2009. Ela se junta ao elenco que inclui nomes como Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Bill Nighy, Nathan Lane, Eugene Levy e Freddie Highmore. A trama mostra um jovem robô com incríveis poderes criado por um brilhante cientista para substituir seu falecido filho na futurista Metro City. Incapaz de preencher as expectativas do criador, o robô parte numa jornada em busca de aceitação no confronto com robôs gladiadores. A animação está pronta, mas ainda precisa entrar no processo de dublagem.

• Ya han comenzado el rodaje del episodio 10.
• Ya está siendo escrito el episodio 13, que será el último de Villanos, la primera parte de la tercera temporada.
• Tim Kring pronto comenzará el guión del primer episodio del Volumen 4: The Fugitives. No puede contar nada más del cuarto volumen, pues lo de Los Fugitivos, solo tiene sentido habiendo visto el Volumen 3.
• El personaje Echo de Mille, protagonista de los Webisodes, aparecerá en la serie, como ya adelantamos desde El Condensador de Fluzo.
• Eden McCain está definitivamente muerta.
• Quieren que Claude Rains regrese a la serie, pero su regreso es una cuestión logística.
• Quieren tener a Kristen Bell (Elle Bishop) más de cinco episodios, pero con su carrera de cine es dificil, veremos que pueden hacer.
• Caitlin está perdida en alguna parte del tiempo. No se sabrá nada de ella en el Volumen 3.
• Nathan también tendrá que elegir entre el bien y el mal. El actor Adrian Pasdar ha insinuado que su personaje podría ser un villano inesperado. Se sabe que su personaje tendrá mucha relación con Peter, con Tracy Strauss y con sus padres... y que tendrá que elegir entre su madre y su padre.
• El episodio quinto nos muestra un viejo David Anders, que interpreta a Adam Monroe. ¿Veremos como y porque envejece su personaje que hasta ahora era inmortal y no envejecía.
• También en este episodio veremos a un personaje que tiene el mismo poder de Isaac Mendez: el poder de pintar el futuro.

Pra começar essa é para os fãs da série Veronica Mars, que passava na TNT. É muito provável que seja feito um filme do seriado. Sim sim. Parece que muitas coisas viriam na quarta temporada que vai acabar nas telas do cinema. Aparentemente Kristen Bell (a personagem principal da série) tem se encontrado com o criador do programa para resolverem direito essa questão. Deve sair um filme muito bom ein.

Madre? É a senhora mesmo?

E um filme sobre Madre Tereza de Calcutá está sendo realizado pelo diretor indiano T. Rajeevnath, e sabe quem vai ser a protagonista? Megan Fox! É, aquela do filme Transformers mesmo!

O que? Não gostou da escolha? Imagino que você saiba quem era a primeira opção não?

Superman 1, de novo

É isso mesmo. Se você esperava a continuação de "Superman Returns" então vou logo te desanimando. A Warner Bros não só cancelou "Superman: Man Of Steel", como ainda decidiu refazer toda a franquia. Desde o primeiro filme sim! Esqueça Christopher Reeve. Vai tudo do zero de novo. Dessa vez num tom mais "sério e sombrio", segundo o site Cinepop.

Acho chato porque não gosto de histórias pela metade, mas já que é o jeito né. Vamos nos divertir pelo menos. Espero.

Hace unos días les mostré el primer y espectacular afiche de Batman 3, creado por un fan del Hombre Murciélago y de Christopher Nolan. Hoy tengo el agrado de presentarles 3 nuevos afiches de Batman 3, creado por un fan australiano llamado Josh MC, que no solo son muy buenos en términos de calidad (se basan en los afiches de The Dark Knight), sino que además el tipo hizo un ejercicio interesante de casting de los nuevos personajes, optando por actores poco conocidos, Josh MC nos presenta a David Tennant ("Doctor Who", Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) como The Riddler (El Acertijo), a la ganadora del Oscar Marion Cotillard (The Passionate Life of Edith Piaf, A Good Year) como Catwoman (Gatúbela) y Kristen Bell ("Veronica Mars", "Heroes", Forgetting Sarah Marshall) como Harley Quinn. Elecciones, sin duda, llamativas y muy posibles en el universo creado por Nolan. Los tres afiches y una foto de Anne Hathaway como una posible futura Batichica y otra de Kristen Bell como Harley Quinn a continuación.

Here's the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actress, Kristen Bell is in the September 2008 issue of Maximal magazine, in fact these are the exact same photos published in the Maxim March 2006.

Kristen Bell dans le nouveau maximal pour son rôle dans Heroes. Mouais, ils sont un peu à la bourre chez Maximal (la diffusion de la saison 2 est déjà terminée depuis quelques temps sur TF1). Qui plus est, ce n'est pas la plus jolie photo de la Bell(e).

- EW's Michael Ausiello says Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell are talking about a Veronica Mars movie. Don't dust off that Neptune Pirates letter jacket just yet, though. Between the two pilots already on Thomas' plate and the chances of any studio greelighting a feature film version of a TV show that averaged only 2.5 million viewers, we're more likely to get a Serenity sequel than to see this baby get off the ground.

- The Bad News: Sci Fi Channel has canceled Stargate Atlantis (the series will finish out its fifth and final season in January). The Good News: the network has greenlit a two-hour movie based on the series.

- Scott Foley and Elizabeth Banks will each be returning to Scrubs this season, for one- and two-episode guest spots, respectively.
