Today has been oh so slow.
After this superb morning nothing much has happened. Anders and Lars-Martin dropped by and we watched a couple of games of football. Arsenal crushed Blackburn with 4 goals to 0. I'm delighted. As for now I'm having a quiet night in. Camilla and the Boo are of to one of Camillas friends for a movie and as I still am a little sick I stayed at home. Just to bad that there's just crap on TV. I could study a bit but I really haven't got the energy.

While discussing Simpson's Forensic Medicine, I'd love it if everyone could see the pictures of the decomposition process.

Though I work for a tissue recovery agency, I was a little ambivalent about tissue donation. Literally giving yourself, it seems to be the greatest gift anyone can ever give, but the recovery process is not for the faint of heart.

I've decided that post-mortem decomposition is far worse. If that's what will happen to my skin, I'll gladly donate it. Please, take my skin, take my tissues, use whatever you can. Forensic Medicine's discussion of the "explosion" of the abdominal cavity and picture of skin "marbling" as bacterial growth spreads through the venous system have made me quite pro-donation.

Thanks, Simpson. Good lesson.

Thanks to Simpson's Forensic Medicine, I'm learning the terminology to describe what I see on the bodies. A pity it won't help me with Scrabble or the vocabulary section of the GRE.

post-mortem hypostasis:

This creates the deep reddish/purple color that I see on the backside of the bodies. After death, the veins and capillaries relax, allowing red blood cells and plasma to flow with gravity to the lowest part of the body. When the body is resting on a hard surface, the blood vessles are squeezed by the weight of the body, creating pale areas i.e. on the rump.

Simpson says that hypostasis appears 2-3 hours after death and persists until decomposition.

What Simpson doesn't say is that on individuals whose head is lower than their belly (read: they're rather large), the blood will also pool in the head, creating a deep blue/purple appearance.

Simpson also neglects to mention that if you cut into an area with post-mortem hypostasis, the body will bleed considerably. The blood makes the recovery a little more difficult, and significantly complicates matters if you're supposed to draw vitreous for the coroner. The coroners want clear vitreous, and become quite unhappy if it's contaminated with blood.

At least now I can blame it on the post-mortem hypostasis.

You have Friday on the cusp of your hands. It is ever so close to you- it's like the smell of food 20 minutes before actual dinner time when you were hungry for over an hour. But then something happens: NOTHING. Nothing grabs you by the legs and take you back to Start, or 22 steps backwards while the other players are still ahead of you. And here I sit. I have the knowledge that at this very moment my counterparts in England are off of work and well into their social night.

Me? Stuck here. Nothing is happening. I can walk to the pantry and graze the chips & M&Ms field...but that kills only 2.5 minutes tops.

Easy Come Easy Go

No Slow Day

Come Easy Go“, „New York – Tokyo“, „Wanna Be Your Girl“, „Goodbye“. Meine Highlights waren die aktuelle Single „Still Love You”, „The Ordinary Song” und „Supersonic Speed“.

Felix

What a slow day I had today... so this post is really about reflecting than anything 'heavy'.

* slow...

If you've been following this blog then I'm sure you have noticed my movie reviews. Quite a few lately. So this proves that I am a true blue movie buff! I guess like many people, I just enjoy to removing myself from the complexities of life and enter the superficial realm of celluloid. That reminds me, gotto watch Hancock soon.. =)

* slower...

Do you ever notice that I use the word "that" repeatedly in my writings? That's a trait which I simply have to eradicate, me thinks.. Coz it doesn't promote clarity in the thought delivery process. Deep...

* slowest...

Hey it's Sunday 'kay! So gimme a break! Where was I? Ah yes, ramblings... I love Tintin. Do you read them? I first read them in primary school and was instantly hooked. In fact, I finished the entire 22 comic books pretty soon (and even covered the adventures of Jo, Zette & Jocko and the unfinished final episode entitled 'Alph-Art' too). And now I feel thrilled that my eldest is also loving the adventures so I'm making sure I get all of them for the family library.

Ok, enough banter. Feeling sleepy already... ^_^

Why? Well, maybe because when we went to Gardner yesterday to pick up the kids report cards, It SNOWED! It was cool and rainy when we went up to Gardner and by the time we got there, half the raindrops were actually snowflakes. Brrr!

After we got the kids stuff, a tourist walked into the school. Female and about 5 months pregnant. She and her husband were lost. They had followed GPS and had been told that Mosca Pass was drivable. OMG's! It isn't drivable!!!! Medano Pass is with a hefty 4WD, but Mosca is a horse or foot trail. So, they were trying to get directions on how to get to the Sand Dunes. Julia, the principal was trying to give the woman directions to Pass Creek which will lead them to HWY 160 and eventually the Sand Dunes. Dan was also standing right there and said that we'd show them the turn as it isn't very clear if you don't know the area.

So, we got in the truck and started out. As they were following us, I mentioned to Dan that the weather was getting worse the higher we went and perhaps we aught to just have them follow us all the way over the pass. He agreed, because as we both know, the road is dirt, has lots of odd twists and at this time of year can be dry, snowpacked, muddy, slushy and down right soaked because the creek has jumped it's banks. By the time we got half way down the road, it was snowing really steadily. We stopped at the junction of Pass Creek road and 160, and the couple thanked us for leading them. We wished them a nice weekend and then drove over La Veta pass to get home. It was a nice drive and we got to do something nice for two lost people.

Oh, and the kids did really well on their report cards!

Today has been a slow day. Slept in a bit, and then just puttered around. Dan isn't feeling 100%, and neither am I. So far, my biggest effort has been to do two loads of laundry. I think I'll write a bit more on Digitally Challenged and then curl up with my book.

It's a slow day today. Maybe, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed or the sun was simply too shy to show up. A typhoon is brewing in the South China Sea and may hit the province tomorrow, threatening to spoil a live show of a television network.

She sent me a text message last night. But it was not the usual text messages she used to send. It was a corny joke. In my inbox, I found a forwarded message from her about some supposed tips on keeping life better. Again, I asked myself, "Does she sincerely care for me? Was the message a sign of affection?"

I haven't been to her office since Monday and I did not even see her then. As I grope for something to write before my deadline at 2 p.m. her smiling face keeps flashing on my mind. What shall I write today?

Huzzah! I have the doors and windows open, and warm air is streaming in! Hung up the winter coat again and stashed the long johns in the dirty clothes. I even have a skirt on today! Ok, it is flannel and velvet, but it is a skirt!

It has been a slow morning. Hauled myself out of bed to take Matt and Nadia to school and then woke up Daniel. He was suppose to be ready, but had fallen back asleep. Wouldn't have had anything to do with Oscar the dog snuggling up to him... No... teeheehee... Finally got him to school and then went over to the office.

Dan didn't get home until nearly 3:20am. He stayed with Morgan and Beth until they were nearly ready to get on the plane. Then there was the drive home from Denver. Wheee..... So, I tip-toed around the office, tried to answer the phones before they made too much noise, etc. I also opened up the doors and windows to let in the warm air. It is about 65 outside right now! I even managed my "morning commute". While others drive for 45 minutes or so, I cruise the internet. I read the news, my web comics, email, etc. I even had time to change the header on my site from the geological dikes to the Spanish Peaks as they look right now. It gives me time to "wake up" and get my brain in gear. I can answer the phone on automatic, but writing text for work is not possible until my thoughts look like something other than tapioca.

Erin and Karen both came over about noon. Dan got up and I made lunch. Quesadillas. Yummm!

Now Karen and Dan are plotting to add another antenna to the tower in Aguilar. Most of the calls to the office today have been about connectivity or the lack thereof. It is a lot more difficult to tilt and point antennas than I originally thought. Being the jr. G33k here has it's disadvantages, as I feel so far behind in knowledge some days.

Granted, it depends on the company I'm in. I have a District Strategic Planning Committee meeting this evening. There, I am a G33K, not just a jr. g33k. We were discussing technology in the schools, and I brought up the descriptions of Digital Native, Digital Immigrant and Digital Naturalized Citizen. None of them knew what I was talking about. I literally had to describe it, and we had two "tech" people there. Aieee-Ya! I realize that I am a Digital Naturalized Citizen, or really close to having that title when compared to a great many people. One area I differ in from some though is that I choose not to let the cell phone or computer run my life like some do. I do take my electronic leash/cell phone and turn it off on occassion. Fun bit though, I can move from pen to typewriter to keyboard and not miss a beat. :> Mwahahahah!!

It seems that there just wasn't much to report about in the last few days in the news. Fox News decided to run this story about some bored teens in South America.

Apparently, they were scared of this little guy dressed up like a gnome that crossed the street near them during the night.

Now really, are you scared of this little guy? ----->

I'm not. I mean, I would understand if this guy (left) jumped up out of nowhere. He's one scary dude, and if you have seen any of his movies, you would never want to try to find his pot of gold again.

But the fact is, it wasn't this guy. It was some midget with a dunce cap on his head that got drunk and decided to run through the bushes down some random rural street.

The question I really have is, why in the world is this news? Seriously, spend the time to report on Boeing losing an important military contract to the French. Report on Clinton supporters saying Obama is only where he is today because he's black. Report on a Kansas City woman who left her two year old at home alone, and then was arrested for it after the house caught on fire and fire fighters had to pull the little girl unconscious out of the burning house.

Wake up and smell the news people, and stop wasting our time with idiotic stories like this.

If you want to continue wasting your time, the cell phone video of the gnome is right here for you.

Why does it seem that there are days that I get nothing done and there are days when I fly through my to do list like it's nothing? This morning I had a to-do list a mile long and here it is, not even 2 o'clock yet and i'm just about finished with it. That's so great! We're just slammed right now. So unusual for february. I've heard other designers commenting how they are booked solid too so I'm glad to know it's not just me :D Not that i'm complaining in the least, i'd much rather be busy than slow.

I was working on a mock up for a dating site today, anyone else realize how ugly dating sites are? ... well.. they certainly can be. I've seen a few nicely done ones. I also busted out some mock up designs for a few "web 2.0" sites lol. I'd laugh if someone came and asked for a web 1.0 site. Can you imagine? :) hee hee. That would be great. We always get such odd questions from folks about design or computers or business. So the question really wouldn't surprise me if it did come up.

Well, i need to wrap this list up, so i better get back to it. Hope you all are having a great wednesday!

Yesterdays "International Slow News Day" left journalists to question their station in life as the crushing worthlessness of their lives became unavoidable.

In an interview, DPoT site creator 'pjmaybe' said; "Yesterday I went for a walk, and I found this dead bird on the ground, and I thought that was just like life, you know? So I took it home and sat in the shower with it, stroking its little head for hours and hours."

Other DPoT staff used their time in other ways. 'Uncle M'aiq' joined a local production of 'West Side Story' as leader of the Jets, 'Riff'.
'Wrong' found himself incarcerated for horse-theft, 'thesaint' died from a heroin overdose, but was revived by the emergency services, and satirical cartoonist 'disusedgenius' was killed by Islamic extremists for drawing a man with a beard.
'Universal Hamster' was unable to comment objectively, as he is the one writing this, but he did add that; "My colleagues have always been a bunch of sick freaks."

Universal Hamster is currently being sought by police in connection with an underground bestiality ring.
